Peter Sellers' trophy wife Lynne Frederick not only inherited all his money but was able to successfully sue the movie studio for TRAIL OF THE PINK PANTHER in which Sellers as Inspector Clouseau is brought back by use of deleted-scene-footage from THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN...

Then again the last three movies, when the PINK PANTHER franchise was continued from the 1960's into the 1970's, are also flawed since Clouseau stopped being the grouchy, oblivious lawman and relied too heavily on costumes and wide-shot/stunt-double pratfalls...
And yet, even beyond Robert Loggia's mob-boss character's futile return from REVENGE is the blasphemous desperation in bringing back the original PINK PANTHER central teaming of David Niven and Capucine — to attempt legitimizing what should have been completely left on the cutting room floor.
