Honeymooning in the woodsy manor belonging to the enigmatic family of Simón Andreu, who, seeming far too old to be her husband, has the fitting dark swarthy appearance despite being the only main character who's not a possessed neck-sucker... or perhaps Maribel Martín is too young for him...
Yet she looks perfect nonetheless, one of the most outright gorgeous ingenues of all time, in any country, a hybrid of American scream-queens Linda Blair and Lee Purcell (both in SUMMER OF FEAR) with some of British starlet Lynne Frederick (SCHIZO) thrown in: with sensuously-experienced full lips contrasting to an otherwise childlike countenance canvased in long light-brown hair, she's the visual juxtaposition of older, thin-lipped blonde Alexandra Bastedo as the literary legend persona of Carmila...

Their shared scenes visually embrace Spanish Giallo arthouse splendor... albeit lacking any real physical chemistry in what's more a horror fable than a formidable horror exploitation, seeming deliberate under the creatively-shot direction of Vicente Aranda: as every unique camera angle is more important than the deliberately sparse plot-line: of a wife being seduced away from her husband...
But it didn't exactly take Maribel Martín very long to realize she's not suited to this guy, either violently attacking her in ultra-violent nightmare sequences, or playing cruel physical games in real time... ultimately making Simón Andreu one of the least likable last-minute vamp-slaying heroes...

Meanwhile, younger (and equally beautiful) pre-teen Rosa M. Rodriguez effectively joins the hypnotic femme-vamp clan... making THE BLOOD SPLATTERED BRIDE (best known as a chapter-title in Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL) more of an aesthetically-pleasing Gothic-storybook presentation than a fully-realized horror-genre experience.
