SACHA BARON COHEN IN THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY

Sacha Baron Cohen comes outta hiding with Mark Strong in THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY
It seems that no matter how hard comic actor Sacha Baron Cohen tries to top his hilarious BORAT, things just go, kinda... wrong. The problem is the same as a, for example, undercover police agent who dresses in shabby clothes to bust people. After a second or third attempt, they might have some luck... perhaps by a change of rags, or whatever else. But by number four, there's nothing doing: People will spot 'em for miles.

Cohen & Strong
So Sacha went a whole other route here, starring in a relatively big budget/mainstream action/adventure espionage comedy THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY that, with a cunning, agile spy teamed up with a complete doofus... who happens to be his brother... we've seen this anti-chemistry a million times before. Although there is a difference being that it's the man who played BORAT, so a few of the scenes go way more over the top than your, say, THE OTHER GUYS, or "buddy team-up flicks" of this nature. Some of the best scenes actually involve the buried lead, Mark Strong's Sebastian, the real deal who has to weather (and usually it's really bad weather) his always-unlucky, sexed-up, perpetually unlucky brother while trying to remain the perfect agent that he is, or was, or seems to have been, and will never be again thanks to the overall sweet-natured "message" of the film: that a clumsy family is more important than a perfect lonely lifestyle. In that, Sebastian's cover being blown is a lot like the career of Cohen himself: And as for our leading man's performance, he's okay for the most part; funny but never hilarious... The latter which occurred during the time he was the best kept secret around, that could only last long enough before fame turned buried treasure into a sunken chest with the goods locked inside.

RATING: **1/2
TRIVIA: One thing does connect this with his earlier BORAT and BRUNO films; false, funny information about real life celebrities and politicians, and in this case, both... Donald Trump's the victim, not surprisingly.
