Scenes where both near-future LAWRENCE OF ARABIA stars (who'd become living legends three-years later) debate race and ethics has real potential — only thing is, O'Toole's voice is dubbed by an American actor who sounds like an easy listening disc jockey. So be incredibly warned — this is not a Peter O'Toole feature for fans for the same reason he insisted his name not appear on the opening credits: despite ultimately providing the secondary leading role. Tanya Roberts as Sheena, for half of the film, shows up whenever needed. Ted Wass and Donovan Scott are big city transplants from a Sports Magazine doing a story on a famous NFL kicker, who also happens to be the brother of a local African King. The kicker wants to kick his brother out of the hierarchy, permanently. And succeeds.

Ted Wass gets neck high in trouble when thugs tail him and his tubby pal Scott, who tries way too hard as comic relief... And Sheena... the stunning girl-Tarzan who rides a Zebra and was raised by a female shaman who dies by the hands of the villain... winds up saving Ted’s life and the two make an unlikely duo. Their trek across the African flatlands and mountainsides provide the best moments. Wass has affable charm as a vulnerable everyman out of his element and while Roberts isn’t quite Oscar material, and being stuck with an intentional monotone (she was raised in the jungle after all) doesn’t help matters, she's delicious eye-candy enough, especially in that loincloth, to make this John Guillermin adventure a real treat.

Tamya Roberts and monkey in SHEENA d. by John Guillerman

Except James Brolin as a high-strung Vietnam vet who needs a few drinks too many. Although the description spoils who the culprit is, the story tries its best to keep us unaware until the menace is revealed as Brolin comes to life as a jaded veteran with flashbacks of a coming home ceremony, but we never get to know any reasons for his lunacy other than the stock "well he was in Vietnam so of course he's nuts," which perhaps was good enough then but not so much anymore: making him one-dimensional and ultimately, uninteresting.

Not bad for a disaster melodrama that inserts a few horrible THE CROWDED SKY type romantic flashbacks, SKYJACKED is Heston’s ride as he plays the cool hero with ease. But as thrillers go it could have been much more intense and suspenseful before the 11th hour showdown. And anyone familiar with the TV show LOST – the final moments of this film mirrors the final moments of that show.

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; The title character, whose reputation precedes him everyplace he goes, is forced undercover to investigate a modern slave trade in Africa.

Richard Roundtree plays the part with more dry humor and boundless energy; not burdened with introductory dialog or urban melodrama, this third sequel, directed by John Guillermin, journeys from one situation to the next with style and suspense.

While the first film is a prototype of Blaxploitation, this embodies the genre’s template with tongue-in-cheek finesse: from the passionate white woman yearning for that particular “taboo” to an abundance of classic one liners of and about our hero's moniker.

Roundtree always seemed too lean and classy for the role of a stud women worship and men fear, displays the usual ever-cool aura making him the one, and still the only, SHAFT. Sure this movie gets silly and some parts drag – like whenever the villains discuss their complicated agenda – but we always return to Shaft getting into, and then out of, those perilous dilemmas whether on land or at sea.

So while this final film might not have the reputation of the one-and-only, it goes more places and has a lot more fun i.e. doesn’t take itself too seriously.
