Even compared to prison ruler Cuervo Jones, a Playboy Che Guevara type about to... take over the world, somehow, with the help of the President's daughter, caught awestruck under his revolutionary spell and, once again, Snake has a certain amount of digitally run-down time to find a particular gadget that, whether in the hands of the equally evil Far Left or Far Right leader, wouldn't be a good thing.<br> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> <span id="goog_850212217"></span><span id="goog_850212218"></span><br> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz4EwTny14Q6fg4DPO9p67U-3xQuLYjf5Og8RIl_7yrWx07JTOMG3Sm3RI2DVezIalPK-z0BrbmDgaXklhgVbb6tEjxFpPEf1sQJFelKdYxj9HB4HeEbZKCVszP_tuCKykHa0l2XK8_ECI/s1600/39179.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="464" data-original-width="356" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz4EwTny14Q6fg4DPO9p67U-3xQuLYjf5Og8RIl_7yrWx07JTOMG3Sm3RI2DVezIalPK-z0BrbmDgaXklhgVbb6tEjxFpPEf1sQJFelKdYxj9HB4HeEbZKCVszP_tuCKykHa0l2XK8_ECI/s320/39179.jpeg" width="245"></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>ESCAPE FROM LA Score: *1/2</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> Stacy Keach is the narrow-eyed Lee Van Cleef, and wields an expository cool edge over Cliff Robertson's eventually weak-kneed, zealot stooge. HALLOWEEN is almost like a sparse kind of modern windy, empty streets Western combined with Film Noir elements, since it... despite the pot smoking and some loose sexual behavior... has a 1950's small town vibe...<br /> <br /> In that, some of the acting can be a bit... noticeable, with the exception of friendly cop Charles Cyphers and the always-effective British character actor Donald Pleasence as Dr. Sam Loomis, the same name as Janet Leigh's "back with the nuts and bolts" boyfriend in PSYCHO...<br /> <br /> And of course, the leading scream queen ingenue is Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of shower-death famous Janet, beginning a career of horror films for the next few years: while sadly, PSYCHO pigeon-holed mom into random work on the big and small screen, daughter was just getting cinematically started (both would appear in Carpenter's fantastic 1980 ghost story, THE FOG).<br /> <br /> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwSw4JRNVcr4UicCBd1DVrkezQZdBEl378AvQnzzpBmbkvO5s_vctAazfOmpIM4uuwhMSEyFvSnWmgSWSkj6rZaD2EmdXDjvr2vL-OaTbBCIoA5zafPUHKqXkDoba4NpvbVNwafWEgDKcA/s1600/Screen+Shot+2018-10-20+at+8.00.28+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="994" data-original-width="706" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwSw4JRNVcr4UicCBd1DVrkezQZdBEl378AvQnzzpBmbkvO5s_vctAazfOmpIM4uuwhMSEyFvSnWmgSWSkj6rZaD2EmdXDjvr2vL-OaTbBCIoA5zafPUHKqXkDoba4NpvbVNwafWEgDKcA/s400/Screen+Shot+2018-10-20+at+8.00.28+PM.png" width="283" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Tagged as "The Trick is to Stay Alive"</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> Paranoid as she is, and unlike her airhead girlfriends, Jamie's Laurie Strode is ultimately tough and firm, her main motivation to protect a little boy and girl from a mask-wearing "Shape" that makes HALLOWEEN really work since we only see the formidable antagonist sporadically in the daylight until he's viciously palpable at night.<br /> <br /> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> And instead of picking-off a handful of teens like in countless suburban "body count" horror flicks to follow, all inspired by HALLOWEEN, there's only Nancy Loomis, PJ Soles and one boyfriend in genuine danger.<br /> <br /> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoCAZjY01V6v7qTsAxP_8sz25iLvBh0Qdi_vjjRLwDNOsAtSNt5urLOhQCg_j9V3JGR7SSQwelolALTMyjV2ueffB68JynklK2frhbGYoPIKHQvXcs3vuQoGZ6QZ76RCsf56gxEZwIvs2b/s1600/Screen+Shot+2018-10-20+at+9.55.29+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="490" data-original-width="414" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoCAZjY01V6v7qTsAxP_8sz25iLvBh0Qdi_vjjRLwDNOsAtSNt5urLOhQCg_j9V3JGR7SSQwelolALTMyjV2ueffB68JynklK2frhbGYoPIKHQvXcs3vuQoGZ6QZ76RCsf56gxEZwIvs2b/s320/Screen+Shot+2018-10-20+at+9.55.29+PM.jpg" width="270" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>PJ Soles' last phone call</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> Basically, no demise is a gratuitous throwaway: every single body count counts... although more victims would have been a nice treat, which <i>would</i> occur in the entertaining 1981 sequel, continuing on the same night and bringing Michael Myers inside a somewhat busy hospital, giving him plenty of folks to haunt and slaughter. '<br /> <br /> The ominous soundtrack is written and composed by director Carpenter (as most of us know, he scores his own projects), and like that camera, the keyboard moves things along, while the main score is reminiscent of THE EXORCIST theme... Not bad since both films wield more than just jolty shock value: HALLOWEEN has a cursed vibe built-in from the onset, making even some of the slower, awkward moments ultimately payoff since, like the roaming Dr. Loomis, the audience knows what (never <i>when</i>) is coming around the bend. Making these poor, simple teenage girls HALLOWEEN night a menacing, formidable nightmare... on-screen. "He really enjoyed the collaboration we were giving to him," PJ Soles says of Carpenter. "And we all felt like part of the team." And that aura is another thing that separates the original from the sequels. A tight, palpable, genuine unity. As everything, from living to dying, happens for a reason. Even when a lot more is expected.

But as far as the players go, BLADE RUNNER actor James Hong is the man here, and an old one at that. His ancient Lo Pan needs to wed the green-eyed McGuffin, who’s engaged to our likable young sidekick. In that, Dennis Dun has equal screen time with the often benign Russell, who remains impartial during most of the karate-filled bouts.<br /> <br /> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP1YzpsSHyyF8zbH_kqdeVAEyXYFsyw7PJHoVd93CmpPN3sgbp0p5DB-JApPSLIruDc5qOFJ-poNs2qsKgoikfIU_xiYIu-FypgkL6NebTc8vGXMtfL9H6M8wlKUdsHiWopt8mgrXvr60/s1600/Screen+shot+2015-09-09+at+11.30.40+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP1YzpsSHyyF8zbH_kqdeVAEyXYFsyw7PJHoVd93CmpPN3sgbp0p5DB-JApPSLIruDc5qOFJ-poNs2qsKgoikfIU_xiYIu-FypgkL6NebTc8vGXMtfL9H6M8wlKUdsHiWopt8mgrXvr60/s320/Screen+shot+2015-09-09+at+11.30.40+AM.png" width="241" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A Much Cooler Image Poster</td></tr> </tbody></table> Awkward dissolves aside, John Carpenter keeps the pace moving effectively with quick-cut close-ups providing a comic book panel styling, colorfully reminiscent of Walter Hill's STREETS OF FIRE, and turns in a more upbeat soundtrack than usual: though his ominous synth remains an undercurrent.<br /> <br /> And where Russell’s NEW YORK Plissken paid homage to Clint Eastwood’s iconic Spaghetti Western loner, this super-macho fella has a John Wayneish delivery, at times going so overboard that the performance feels more like a quotable-contrived satire than a genuine action hero… <br /> <br /> But with loads of mystical fantasy, an exploding samurai, costumed monsters and tacked-on special effects that often distract from the basic pulpy peril, you shouldn’t take LITTLE CHINA very seriously. In fact the whole rollercoaster ride, seeming purposely tailor-made for a cult-following even before successfully acquiring one, is much better experienced than evaluated... In one ear, out the other... Relax and enjoy. <br /> <br /> RATING: ***1/2

And it's much more of a sci-fi/thriller than a horror movie.<br /> <br /> Plot centers on a doctor, played by dependable Tom Atkins, teaming with beautiful Stacey Nelkin whose father, the owner of a magic shop, is murdered by a man in a black suit.<br /> <br /> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaa0wY5C30BlV14BY0z-3twrLOh-UmWrS1EUPowkSB_YmvQceJ_F-GuZ7ypKh2UfFGgb9IC0Z3lwYx0tDbzWBhJdyMreVXHKzZk_FA2mAotQOOvmkjeRex1rCFGFCrj-G4jFZcUMZxqpum/s1600/44525061_589065671522613_2538149492377518080_n.jpg" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="958" data-original-width="769" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaa0wY5C30BlV14BY0z-3twrLOh-UmWrS1EUPowkSB_YmvQceJ_F-GuZ7ypKh2UfFGgb9IC0Z3lwYx0tDbzWBhJdyMreVXHKzZk_FA2mAotQOOvmkjeRex1rCFGFCrj-G4jFZcUMZxqpum/s320/44525061_589065671522613_2538149492377518080_n.jpg" width="256" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Signed by Tom Atkins RATES: ****</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> Atkins and Nelkin wind up in a small town ruled by the mysterious head of a novelty corporation specializing in three simple but spooky Halloween masks: a witch, a pumpkin, and a skull... and because of magic shops, they're open all year round but are still waiting for that titular night to shine: Turns out these masks have powers: After a commercial plays a really creepy/catchy jingle, the children are promised to win a prize...<br /> <br /> But this particular trick is no treat, thus resulting in a rather gruesome outcome, while much of the film concerns our snoopy heroes investigating the town after dark, and then the factory itself holds the coolest scenes, replete with mind-bending antique curios even creepier than the antagonists: all created by or purchased by – or working for – head honcho Dan O’Herlihy, who delivers charmingly sinister monologues throughout. And right when you think it’s over, there are a few more twists around the bend.<br /> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihlgn_EEWjnwPS98-vusRMUv_YogEVkkaE1ReK-2PUn-zxnroLE511eKtFwpTOHPUG2WT8gX0xDlg4w4RXhyZu4qrLruAIc976gLtbfptY0uyHaCk0Ut0JTPavFPXW7FC32TMoSnZRlUsW/s1600/title02_142253441.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihlgn_EEWjnwPS98-vusRMUv_YogEVkkaE1ReK-2PUn-zxnroLE511eKtFwpTOHPUG2WT8gX0xDlg4w4RXhyZu4qrLruAIc976gLtbfptY0uyHaCk0Ut0JTPavFPXW7FC32TMoSnZRlUsW/s1600/title02_142253441.jpg" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Stacey Nelkin as Ellie Grimbridge</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9SXE7oMEC6mjUrzBOr_uRYMtAvtbpUvP2ttFBWHmTyBGxeNrYnBfXduv7uLsbK8SDRTj6pzRxOzO0HhML5uzsnropoe2gS3g8nkkxGm4vZ7Q2djkPH1CrSA2VPxWkzyWeKEbGeNud2_e2/s1600/title02_142727477.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9SXE7oMEC6mjUrzBOr_uRYMtAvtbpUvP2ttFBWHmTyBGxeNrYnBfXduv7uLsbK8SDRTj6pzRxOzO0HhML5uzsnropoe2gS3g8nkkxGm4vZ7Q2djkPH1CrSA2VPxWkzyWeKEbGeNud2_e2/s1600/title02_142727477.jpg" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Never remove a label from a Silver Shamrock Mask...</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5PH1Gc-0JdrxgoD1bfoRpa_Nwen3v1DTZ1vVix7CS_o5LDocJ1qde5S_ia3nq91R5VGQYa1g2D1QYMDfZ_cGjfSihKEyDVPIZXZdiMkrfARGPWkEIU89Mydqwosm13DXadcDJS8V42E8/s1600/1620406_10205225463778577_4725128651884088315_n.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5PH1Gc-0JdrxgoD1bfoRpa_Nwen3v1DTZ1vVix7CS_o5LDocJ1qde5S_ia3nq91R5VGQYa1g2D1QYMDfZ_cGjfSihKEyDVPIZXZdiMkrfARGPWkEIU89Mydqwosm13DXadcDJS8V42E8/s1600/1620406_10205225463778577_4725128651884088315_n.jpg" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Stacey Nelkin's got a secret...
