Meanwhile, the only real musician... other than an extremely dated folk duo... is Gene McDaniels, whose track "Compared To What" played in both 1990's cult movies BOOGIE NIGHTS and CASINO (though he sings another tune here). Basically, these SWINGERS desperately need a beach to have a good time at so we can too. The whole film's really just a showcase — going back and forth from the club's music-filled exterior to a stuffy office in an awkward, uninteresting fashion. With limited locations and dull characters, it's simply no fun i.e. this bad isn't good at all. <br /> <br /> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdlbQAL3wf0pK0vfjbTMZ6kONUTFyiyWWCKrwtrPcuL1QgC7KqTkwD5T2Pow75vvb0tOROzfHwxegCBzy7i6Uwg7NuLFOLpLZ5YR0JA-DLEhAz9Pe2nt8p_S2beBAu0L-CNJ7vepXNIlPo/s1600/wild-on-the-beach-movie-poster-lobby-card-vtg-1965-surf-culture-teenage1-e1443237624504+2.jpg" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="793" data-original-width="956" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdlbQAL3wf0pK0vfjbTMZ6kONUTFyiyWWCKrwtrPcuL1QgC7KqTkwD5T2Pow75vvb0tOROzfHwxegCBzy7i6Uwg7NuLFOLpLZ5YR0JA-DLEhAz9Pe2nt8p_S2beBAu0L-CNJ7vepXNIlPo/s400/wild-on-the-beach-movie-poster-lobby-card-vtg-1965-surf-culture-teenage1-e1443237624504+2.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Indoors mostly in Wild on the BeachYEAR: 1965</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> <span style="font-size: small;"><u>WILD ON THE BEACH</u>:</span> A cross between SURF PARTY and YOUNG SWINGERS has three girls arriving at the beach; and there's an uptight niece played by brunette beauty Sherry Jackson: A rudimentary twist has her uncle's death leaving her a beach party-pad that'd been used by several rowdy (albeit polite) local guys... <br /> <br /> The year is 1965, and from the mention of college love-ins and sit-ins, it underlines a progression from the other Maury Dexter beach flicks as the plot involves a grouchy college dean (played by Booth Colman from RAIDERS FROM BENEATH THE SEA) who lays down an edict that only kids with housing can attend the local University. So the boys trick the girls — then they all wind up in the same house, making things more plot-heavy than fun, funny or the kind of breezy fare Maury Dexter pulls off nicely when there's a good story and interesting characters. And the plot is repeated so often, he must have thought young audiences suffered from short-term memory loss...<br /> <br /> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXstu5AomxP-N-GpPDq0o9sYI57-8yl7iVThD2FswGmKJ8dnZ3HjfyQei9UffaTLog89tGFuYuSP-h4HqVS6W2-90DHJWDHsBoIG8SyhG-JlecU3j-YezvgXPfLwHirJr_HDKJApI7x3MZ/s1600/6.jpg" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="736" data-original-width="960" height="306" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXstu5AomxP-N-GpPDq0o9sYI57-8yl7iVThD2FswGmKJ8dnZ3HjfyQei9UffaTLog89tGFuYuSP-h4HqVS6W2-90DHJWDHsBoIG8SyhG-JlecU3j-YezvgXPfLwHirJr_HDKJApI7x3MZ/s400/6.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Young Swingers: ** Wild on the Beach: **1/2 Surf Party: ***1/2</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> The soon-to-be STAR TREK episode's perfect robot girl Sherry Jackson plays it sweet, sincere and a follower-of-rules, but there's no one more spontaneous and/or free-spirited enough for her to play off. The leading man is a weak conniving dolt, so her vulnerabilities are in vain, and uncomfortably at that. <br /> <br /> The best scene has a singer playing herself, though she's hardly famous even then — the extremely gorgeous, short yet wonderfully voluptuous male fantasy of Cindy Malone (who played LuLu on the Adam West BATMAN) singing a great little tune called "Run Away From Him" with a fantastic echo/reverb sound; she's auditioning for Dexter's longest-running stock actor, Russ Bender. This groovy track's even better than the introduction of a new duo that plays along with the movie's stock band, The Astronauts — enter Sonny and Cher singing, "It's Gonna Rain." But overall, the kids, lacking WILD, don't spend enough time ON THE BEACH — so the title means close to nothing.  <br /> <div style="text-align: left;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; From this point on, Trask's biggest obstacle is the most entertaining aspect of WALK TALL. Taylor is the main actor (like Hitchcock's James Stewart/Preminger's Dana Andrews/Wood's Bela Lugosi) in Maury Dexter's early-60's troupe and, with a pencil-thin mustache no matter what side of the law he resides, here he's got the charm of a resilient snake, coolly playing down the "Gentleman Heavy" with sly humor and meticulous goading that intensifies once Joyce Meadows as Sally, whose family was attacked and slain by Indians a stone's throw from the duo's morning campout, gets easily brainwashed by the proud Indian Killer: after what she's been through, all Indians are better off dead. The sneaky chemistry between the Indian haters and sole protector make up for the most moments, overall...<br> <br> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaP5wUhCTZ5FGG3eCITFwNx6VwpgJ7AbxafK-jL1waIA_yRVV0E9mpfXexiIMD8JETajMUnwF3WVd8RssD9evizCn9X71a6t0hdBl02S__b4f2B8LPhg0rQ0TO912bU4AR1LKn3zDMiaio7geJrNh5ay6VyNz_EJF64F_faP04yxrrCvfvDnjyzA8hCg/s770/Screen%20Shot%202023-02-05%20at%204.25.12%20AM.jpeg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="770" data-original-width="709" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaP5wUhCTZ5FGG3eCITFwNx6VwpgJ7AbxafK-jL1waIA_yRVV0E9mpfXexiIMD8JETajMUnwF3WVd8RssD9evizCn9X71a6t0hdBl02S__b4f2B8LPhg0rQ0TO912bU4AR1LKn3zDMiaio7geJrNh5ay6VyNz_EJF64F_faP04yxrrCvfvDnjyzA8hCg/w369-h400/Screen%20Shot%202023-02-05%20at%204.25.12%20AM.jpeg" width="369"></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Willard Parker in WALK TALL</u></td></tr></tbody></table>And while the TALL and sturdy Willard Parker — older than most Western-Action heroes who weren't young superstars to begin with — has to keep weathering Taylor's perpetual mind-games, what really fleshes out the otherwise cliché character is how he never gives an inch and always, literally, sticks to his guns...<br> <br> In fact, both lead roles, the good and the bad, relies on pushing each other's buttons while the surrounding landscape makes you forget this is a very low-budget venture with a good cast and a familiar "Cowboy Picture" script, rushing towards an inevitable and utterly predictable conclusion — ending way too soon since the trio's chemistry makes wordplay trump gunplay. When being reunited with his dimwitted three-man gang to collect the loot, Kent Taylor's  just another cerebral leader of vapid, one-dimensional brutes while our main man is back to the typical hero we started out with before the combined synergy provided more than we (or they) paid for. Thankfully, b-pictures usually have a short, to-the-point runtime, and for the sixty-one minutes, most of WALK TALL is a three-person show.<br> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><span></span>

Scenes with the police helicopter dotting the blue sky of what seems like the rural suburbs just beyond a skyscraper-laden landscape, takes some time, but are still suspenseful and entertaining: Beginning with a soundtrack like any cop program of that era, though leaning on a jazzy upbeat over the usual forceful punch... other times providing bits of Halloween horror flick Tiburon sounds... as a faceless male thief steals a painting, and then takes off in a helicopter that meets him on that high-rise building's roof...<br> <br> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYqlUwHyJugZJBrf8R23lMmuklYgMP_jdNkgM_Jfe_HL2Ph9ULg2whlMwBwScb-y58zeq3AfDeEPoSrnYBHn4aB5a_CNNCPBnOkamhavSsPTWPZgekym73Pf9nxATbNehyTzNcwfvRD_s/s1600/Screen+Shot+2016-08-03+at+10.06.12+PM.png" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYqlUwHyJugZJBrf8R23lMmuklYgMP_jdNkgM_Jfe_HL2Ph9ULg2whlMwBwScb-y58zeq3AfDeEPoSrnYBHn4aB5a_CNNCPBnOkamhavSsPTWPZgekym73Pf9nxATbNehyTzNcwfvRD_s/s400/Screen+Shot+2016-08-03+at+10.06.12+PM.png" width="280"></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Merry Anders as Mona</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> The one-man knockoff went easy enough, and only one lady, working late, got in the way: but only for the amount of time to get bonked unconscious in this breezy Late Noir with a beautiful, edgy, cranky, cop-hating ingenue, with old school chops of one of those brisk and edgy Femme Fatalle's, or the curt best friend of the leading lady on here, she's in the lead...<br> <br> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> <div style="text-align: right;"> </div> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfxnUSiwA4kX7oN9G4llmlcYb_ge_xRM164N_LQd3R9k8yhzxh3BPKZ2ypapAyM9AUEolPjiYgTlVZRzSCBrfZtOwWN9teX7CJOTfK8ciufgX4WXC7wOjRGjDmT51nHU8H6ra9Oc-bImJa/s1600/42346149_575684696194044_39225807465349120_n.jpg" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="821" data-original-width="802" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfxnUSiwA4kX7oN9G4llmlcYb_ge_xRM164N_LQd3R9k8yhzxh3BPKZ2ypapAyM9AUEolPjiYgTlVZRzSCBrfZtOwWN9teX7CJOTfK8ciufgX4WXC7wOjRGjDmT51nHU8H6ra9Oc-bImJa/s320/42346149_575684696194044_39225807465349120_n.jpg" width="312"></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><u>Merry Anders plays it tough in Air Patrol</u></td></tr> </tbody></table> Waking up after the heist with a feeling liken to a hangover, or worse, and she's our primary starlet, looking better than ever: that being Merry Anders, as part of our ongoing "Merry Anders Cinema" and/or, on other flicks sans the exotically wide-eyed ingenue, Maury Dexter Cinema, for her already covered in b-movie write-ups of <a href="http://www.cultfilmfreaks.com/2016/07/anders1-HYP-EYE.html">THE HYPNOTIC EYE</a> and <a href="http://www.cultfilmfreaks.com/2016/07/merry-anders-cinema-raiders-from.html">RAIDERS FROM BENEATH THE SEA</a>, here playing Mona, under questioning in the same office building by a wise, patient yet assertive veteran cop Lt. Taylor played by Willard Parker and then our hero, a mellow, younger lawman whose primary task is a flier in the AIR PATROL. Bob Dix is a personal friend of Cult Film Freak, having starred of <a href="http://www.cultfilmfreaks.com/2012/08/hells-bloody-devils-fakers.html">HELL'S BLOODY DEVILS</a>, <a href="http://www.cultfilmfreaks.com/2012/08/satans-sadists.html">SATAN'S SADISTS</a>, <a href="http://www.cultfilmfreaks.com/2010/03/robert-dix-five-bloody-graves.html">FIVE BLOODY GRAVES</a>, and <a href="http://www.cultfilmfreaks.com/2014/06/first-archive-bagful.html">FORBIDDEN PLANET</a>. His Sgt. Castle slowly melts Anders down into not being so feisty and aggravated... But that's skipping ahead...<br>
