The would-be brilliant casting of Strother Martin as the leader of a Devil-worshiping cult is completely wasted by a pointless script centering on a family who happens upon a rural small town and, along with everyone else, cannot leave. The resident adults choke to death while their kids, hypnotized, join Martin's cult consisting of overlong sermons and lots of candles but absolutely no chills, thrills, or purpose.
