And he waits, and waits...</p><p></p><p>Problem is, so do we... Way too long while never quite "walking a mile in the moccasins" of our title hero... Other than a few tricks, like splitting water bottles and stealing horses, the posse take up more screen time than Bronson, who actually does look part Mexican or Eskimo to begin with, and there's a point when this Anti-Western action flick could have actually used some action, earlier on, to see more what Chato's made of other than being Charles Bronson. Unbelievable and impossible, sure, but let's toast old school models, matte paintings, a John Barry soundtrack reminiscent of his BLACK HOLE fanfare overture, and another excellent Shout Factory Blu Ray/DVD combo, delivering another “Oh yeah, <i>that</i> movie” into our living room.  <br /> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOuFjoFkQZuJP2n23wLgpc5lQjcOzyhHNeJtGzkE-94YU97AFvHHVBMiRKJhHS2yS_zvDa46G3087K6FvOZR846F0CD2r6Zw4BnO7CoA-WEIbcOsbTrTdQBF8GylrrDU8hJsEHwEYOZf8/s1600/r1.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOuFjoFkQZuJP2n23wLgpc5lQjcOzyhHNeJtGzkE-94YU97AFvHHVBMiRKJhHS2yS_zvDa46G3087K6FvOZR846F0CD2r6Zw4BnO7CoA-WEIbcOsbTrTdQBF8GylrrDU8hJsEHwEYOZf8/s1600/r1.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Matte Painting of the returning Titanic in RAISE THE TITANIC</td></tr> </tbody></table> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyaYFkTevc56YlWTJ-wmh66wpvfYxk8bab5tTq-U_QT8y7_VpFSWxP-fs2AkH4W8xDzslD2Q3SF1md9gqKIBgcI0ageTs-t2KbaZ1Sp7DwLPprDCidmAb2Sbi8VT6Q1z3AOULybMR5bRA/s1600/r2.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyaYFkTevc56YlWTJ-wmh66wpvfYxk8bab5tTq-U_QT8y7_VpFSWxP-fs2AkH4W8xDzslD2Q3SF1md9gqKIBgcI0ageTs-t2KbaZ1Sp7DwLPprDCidmAb2Sbi8VT6Q1z3AOULybMR5bRA/s1600/r2.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Titanic returns to port under a bridge</td></tr> </tbody></table> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjm7buK1nWRqxW6ljscvX0QmLmHb4_3PLFOcQQVsVYniviRPp96pg8fYCqTW_TsjWWn8wbK2obyjcBqSXaG6CVci2ymWRBVzsOu_fhMZpT7yv_X3sPVdyoJEFhV-ajiYczMBtiknptZpQ/s1600/r3.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjm7buK1nWRqxW6ljscvX0QmLmHb4_3PLFOcQQVsVYniviRPp96pg8fYCqTW_TsjWWn8wbK2obyjcBqSXaG6CVci2ymWRBVzsOu_fhMZpT7yv_X3sPVdyoJEFhV-ajiYczMBtiknptZpQ/s1600/r3.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No, Bruce Dern is not flying this blimp</td></tr> </tbody></table> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdrNAszzzsQYjY1G3uAF6isIoJ52SJYGfqHOTUrwIQ8-n9Kc5h_k433KwOBUYbhaBU-9Xg9-FqMXTXff9E1P8vkxg3MfRHt9n_ho0Vda-2zDEKkJVZSPNiZgENK-8FRZ5SMWWmiw5Kx9g/s1600/r4.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdrNAszzzsQYjY1G3uAF6isIoJ52SJYGfqHOTUrwIQ8-n9Kc5h_k433KwOBUYbhaBU-9Xg9-FqMXTXff9E1P8vkxg3MfRHt9n_ho0Vda-2zDEKkJVZSPNiZgENK-8FRZ5SMWWmiw5Kx9g/s1600/r4.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Titanic ghost ship contrasts with modern vehicles</td></tr> </tbody></table> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1veiglpkgwTduT3QKaSQdEZYZrSgqXh8QQ2o19PPx16D26JmQK-UjKm2u73oUD_Xfza-O8IDznaXty-bDtVuHbQduieL5S3GtF6yzll-sOp9iJiHg481cksQodBFNCwHaIu6dsLBiDJU/s1600/r000.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1veiglpkgwTduT3QKaSQdEZYZrSgqXh8QQ2o19PPx16D26JmQK-UjKm2u73oUD_Xfza-O8IDznaXty-bDtVuHbQduieL5S3GtF6yzll-sOp9iJiHg481cksQodBFNCwHaIu6dsLBiDJU/s1600/r000.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You can find the Shout Factory RAISE THE TITANIC anywhere online</td></tr> </tbody></table>

The dialogue seems endless and pointless, especially between Mitchum and his old Japanese flame. And when action does occur, it feels rushed and awkward, directed by Sydney Pollack with the intensity of a daytime soap. And yet, beyond the miscasting of the usually comedic Herb Edelman, and the waste of Mitchum and Brian Keith's talents, Japanese actor Ken Takakura, as the only character with any purpose (or power), has potential: but is stuck in the wrong film to use it. </div>

Mitchum, as the world-weary convict (also a family man), is top-notch. As the walls close in, his expressions alone, mixing maverick-cool and doomed fear... exceeded only by confident gun-dealing Steven Keats as "Jackie Brown" with director Peter Yate's ability to juggle each connected story with sublime precision... makes for one of the great crime gems of the seventies, more ensemble than star-driven. </div>
