The good guys meet a pickpocket orphan who becomes
Herbie's best pal, and along the way journey on a cruise ship and even
take part in a bullfight. Meanwhile, Burns falls in love with freespirited socialite Cloris Leachman's
daughter, the beautiful Elyssa Davalos, doing the cliché girl wearing glasses with real beauty soon to unveal (although she's cute either way), while Martin
insists they run a con job, giving a little edge to the romance.

HERBIE GOES BANANAS is an enjoyable romp from beginning to end, with
many different locations
and sticky situations for the characters (including Harvey Korman as a
cranky ship captain joining Leachman) and our titular bug to sneak
out of, dodging seedy villains John Vernon, Alex Rocco and Richard Jaeckel. But they're no match for Herbie, who,
though taking back seat a lot of the time, winds up stealing the show.
The good guys meet a pickpocket orphan who becomes
Herbie's best pal, and along the way journey on a cruise ship and even
take part in a bullfight. Burns falls in love with freespirited socialite Cloris Leachman's
daughter, the beautiful Elyssa Davalos, while Martin
insists they run a con job, giving a little edge to the romance.

HERBIE GOES BANANAS is an enjoyable romp from beginning to end, with many different locations
and sticky situations for the characters (including Harvey Korman's cranky ship captain joining Leachman) and our titular bug to sneak
out of. Villains John Vernon, Alex Rocco and Richard Jaeckel are both seedy
and spooky for a Disney film, but they're no match for Herbie, who,
though taking back seat a lot of the time, winds up stealing the show.
Fred Flintstone, that lovable blue-collar caveman from Bedrock, becomes a spy in this feature length cartoon: Hanna Barbara’s farewell to the six season television series...

Begins with a fantastic mountainside car chase involving two goons and a suave James Bond-like spy, Rock Slag, who looks exactly like Fred. The chase results in Rock being injured...

Cut to Fred and his marble-eyed sidekick Barney taking a failed shortcut home. They wind up at the hospital where Fred’s given an assignment to replace his double: The Flintstones and Rubbles go on a European trip where Fred learns of a nefarious criminal, The Grey Goose, and his plot to blow up the world.

Loads of fun action – mostly involving those two thugs attempting to kill Fred. But when various musical numbers are thrown in… the worst concerning a hippie-dippy "progression" of children that has nothing to do with the plot or characters… what begins as a clever spoof gets derailed. But the good stuff returns with a chase through an abandoned theme park: including a nod to Orson Welles's LADY FROM SHANGHAI fun house: What would have made a great hour-long two-part episode, sans the musical interludes, winds up a flawed Flintstone journey – yet even the bad parts are creatively bizarre... it was 1966, after all.

You can't help but to get involved in the story of a new head shrink (Brooks) of a crooked insane asylum who has an extreme fear of heights: From one situation to the next, this parody encompasses "Vertigo", "Psycho", "The Birds", "Frenzy", and all the (other) Hitch-flicks that has the main character being falsely accused of murder...

Homage-driven jabs at Alfred H's signature camera shots and dramatic musical scores are the funniest. Somewhere between "Blazing Saddles" (as the high-point) and "History of the World" (as a semi low-point), this movie has a cozy place within the Mel Brooks canon. Nothing gained, nothing lost. But you'll enjoy the ride, especially with Cloris Leachman and Harvey Korman going over-the-top, on purpose, like only they can.
