Robert Bray plays Mickey Spillane's no-nonsense private-investigator Mike Hammer in-between Ralph Meeker's quintessential big screen tough guy under-performance in KISS ME DEADLY, and the energetic, watered-down charm of TV's Darren McGavin... and ironically, Bray's MY GUN IS QUICK is a jazz-scored, low-budget b-movie that ironically feels more made-for-television than the series...
The only aspect mirroring DEADLY is how Hammer's secretary Velda looks... as otherwise scream-queen Pamela Duncan's a dead-ringer for full-lipped Maxine Cooper... and while this Velda seems game with the usual jealousy for her boss's inclination for pretty dames, she literally only phones in her few scenes...

As does the third most important character in the overall Hammer canon: the overseeing Captain Pat Chambers is portrayed by burly character-actor Booth Colman, when he would have better fit chiselled secondary heavy Richard Garland (who appeared with Pamela Duncan in Roger Corman's THE UNDEAD and ATTACK OF THE MONSTERS the same year)...
For ninety long minutes, Robert Bray visits/questions suspects with a lethargic countenance and monotone voice... from a campy rear-projection speed boat with lead ingenue (and equally dull) Whitney Blake to dark-lit apartments with more intriguing dames who, from doomed first-girl Jan Chaney to nightclub singing Gina Maria Hidalgo, deserved a far more intriguing leading man/investigation.
