CAROL LYNLEY WITH PETER DUEL DRIVING 'THE FBI: FALSE WITNESS'

Peter Duel & Carol Lynley on THE FBI: FALSE WITNESS Year: 1967 Season 3 Rating: ****

Sometimes the Quinn Martin production THE FBI would compete with all the 1960's spy movies, so the most complicated episodes involve espionage while the best go to simple heist plots with, in this case, beautiful Carol Lynley falsely accused of driving a getaway car after a bank robbery... so her loser boyfriend Pete Duel (who'd later commit suicide while starring in another Martin production) both uses and protects her for another score...

Episodes like FALSE WITNESS don't have the twists and turns of the more highly-rated commie-traitor turns, but they're far more involving (and less melodramatic), allowing leads Efrem Zimbalist Jr and William Reynolds more hands-on input instead of waiting around by the phone... making this another low-rated yet highly enjoyable episode of a series that's aged considerably well  — depending on the particular episode.
